Area Fundacional
The area can be visited starting off at Ituzaingó and Alberdi streets, visiting the Fundational Area, that includes a square, a museum, a courtyard of sculptoric modules and an Underground Camera with arqueological remains. In front of the square the San Francisco Ruins (prior Jesuits) declared National Historic Monument. From the square to the Alberdi street towards the east, we observe the Zanjon, wide channel that is nammed Cacique Guaymallen. It has 30 kilometers of length and is deeply related to the history of the city. Through this channel and the Ituzaingó, street you can find the soothing O'Higgins park, picturesque with forested meadows and ancient trees, where you can enjoy fresh air and the shows in the, Gabriela Mistral theater, next to the Corrientes street.
From there, you can observe the dome of the Our Lady of Mercy church, with access through the Montecaseros street, that is one of the first temples of the city constructed after the earthquake. In the last part of the park there are playgrounds for children and an interesting Municipal Aquarium , situated as one of the most important in South America. Sweet and salt water fish compose the vast collection of the aquarium. In front of the aquarium the Anaconda Serpentary is found. By the Buenos Aires street towards the west you can access the Sarmiento square, prior used as a military exercise camp as a defense against the groups of indians. The circuit ends in the Loreto Cathedral , in front of the square.
